photo309472.jpg Anyone know the difference between these two different tachometer ends attached to harness? Red one is new version. Black is older existing version. It’s for my 2002 Mercury Optimax 21’ Boston Whaler. Mercury Marine insists the gauges and harness are compatible but they can’t advise me why I have two different plugs now and what is needed to resolve. Thanks for any help.

Oh I’m not totally sure. Mine is on a Mercruiser and not an outboard, but we’re you’re old gauges smart craft ?
i do know that you probably have a communal port in the loom somewhere. Also that there is two fitting options.
I’d its anything like mine...you can plug them all in directly at the engine or at the ports interface under the dash (that will come from the engine), depending on the set up.

Thanks. My issue is there are very limited Mercury experts in MANAHAWKIN. Either they’re good and never have time for new customers or they don’t know enough. Frustrating. And like I mentioned, the Mercury distributor was little help at all. Just care about businesses it seems and not the individuals.

Do the harnesses have any stamped part number or tags?
