Can't say that I have, but now after 2 months, I am really starting to notice the added lung capacity!

I have put on about 10 lbs, so now that I can run more than 20' without getting out of breath, guess I need to start excercising too!

Re: Smoke Free, Day 65

Keep up the good work! I am now smoke free since the first of the year also. I have maintained the same weight. My secret is everytime I get a craving, or get the urge to eat between meals, I drink a glass of water.

The hardest part is doing things that I associate smoking with, mainly having a few brewski's and fishing. I don't snore anymore and the best part is being able to take a really deep breath without weezing or coughing.

I've never personally had to quit smoking, so I can't possibly understand your struggles, but I've seen many other people going through it.

My question is, how does you willpower hold up after a few drinks? At least half the people I know that have quit smoking still smoke when they drink, but have quit completely otherwise. Like quitting smoking with an asterisk.

I drink a whole lot less Wilken, and my friends have instructions to not give me any butts if I get a little tipsy. Like I said, it is the worst part.

Re: Smoke Free, Day 65

It's the mind game.

"Quitting is easy, I've done it a hundred times"

Why did I suceed this time? I took control of the jedi mind tricks the nicotene was doing on my brain. After the first few days, your mind says "you've done good, you can have a drag without a problem" Then I have to just stop myself, NO! I DON'T SMOKE.

I am one puff away from a pack a day. Once you convince yourself that smoking is not a reward for not smoking, you've won half the battle.
I know that sounds weird, but when you are fighting the addiction, your mind plays a lot of tricks to get it's fix.

I carpool with my sister, who smokes, I let her smoke in the car, and it doesn't bother me. (I drive an '88 van POS with no head liner... not worried about any smell.

Times that I have quit in the past... after a week, I would tell myself, "it's ok, grab a cigar to celebrate on the way home".... as a cigerette smoker... you inhale that cigar, and are SMOKING.... no games this time. I win.

Every day you don't smoke, you shave a thin slice off of the urge. At some point in the distant future you will begin to be repulsed by the smell of cigarette smoke. It happened to me anyway. Unburned tobacco still smells great though, so stay away. ;)

A friend of my dad's quit smokeing about six mounth ago. He is 50years old and has smoked and in every day since he was like 12.
He's the nicest guy you'll ever meet, he go's to work every day, never got marryed or had kids and lives in a bording house. He's a drunk, when he isn't at work he's drinking. He gets home from work at 5pm and drinks 7-9 beers and then go's to bed, that just him.

My point is, he also smoked two packs a day for pretty much his whole life, we don't see him that often but maybe once a mounth my dad and I will stop by and see him on a weekend. Ever since I was a little kid I would always tell him he should quit smokeing. On one sunday morning my dad and I stoped my his house, after about 10 mins he asked me "notice anything diferent", and I didn't. He then told me he quit smokeing, he went cold turkey all on his own. His reason for quiting was because he was sick of the prices of smokes going up and up.

I thought for sure after drinking for a while he's be back on them, but nope. He is Sh!t faced every night of the week, but she's smoke free.

I think he is living proof that drinking has nothing or little to do with it.

Re: Smoke Free, Day 65

It has been two months to the day for me. I still have the nicotine dependance but it is through nicorette. I switched from 4mg to 2mg gum a month ago. I will start decreasing the gum dosage now.

I can now smell a smoker at 20 feet. The oxygen overdose lasted the first week for me. What a trip. Could not think straight or talk right. I would try and say one thing and something else would come out of my mouth.

I am glad this is working for the rest of you and thanks for posting your progress.

Congrats Ndemge!! I've wondered how you are doing. Me, not so good. I get to that two week area and fold. I can also smell a smoker when I'm not and it repulses me and then I realize I must reek like that too. I'm convinced I'll find a way but you guys are my heroes.

Re: Smoke Free, Day 65

I had my last cigarette on June 23, 2003. I have to agree with all the things said here. I too quit many times. I now can have a drink, coffee a large meal without a craving.

Yes, a smoke is not a reward for not smoking!!!!

I know if I ever have just a drag, I will start smoking again. I will alway be a smoker. Just one that does not smoke.

I still go to the smoking room with my clients that smoke. I still go to bars etc.

I just came back from vacation and did not smoke.

Those of us that used to smoke will always be smokers.

Re: Smoke Free, Day 65

Stay strong guys. I quit for two years. Unfortunetly I started back about a month ago. The craving never really went away for me. One day I just decided that I no longer wanted to not smoke. Talk about a dumb decision. The free air feeling is gone, the morning hack is back, and I keep a cold. May God be on your side.

Re: Smoke Free, Day 65

I know the times I quit in the past I wanted that cigarette in a bad way and when I finally broke down and smoked one it tasted terrible. I would smoke the thing and think why do I want something that tastes so bad. A few hours later I am smoking another one thinking the same thing. I know in my mind it is going to taste bad so I have convinced myself this time that I do not want one. Hope this helps.
