Ok, so here's a question I'm sure has been asked 100 times. I have got a 25HP Merc which runs fine at the top end, but wont idle. It smokes a lot to when running a higher speed idle. Any ideas anyone? Once it dies I need the choke to start it again no matter how long its been running?

I've had a charging loop fitted recently so Ill be contacting the mechanic, as I guess that might be a good place to start.

Thanks a lot.
Dave G

is the mixture correct? the smoke sounds to me like it has to much oil in it, that's my 0.02 cents. i could be wrong coz im no genius, btw what colour is the smoke? blue, or black?

Would too much oil cause the engine to die like it does? I'm mixing in at 50/1 which is what is recommended for my engine.

dave,

Believe it or not, having to use the choke for starting, even when warm, is a sign of flooding. More than likely, your float and/or needle valve are problematic.

Either will need a carb. rebuild to correct.

Thing is, it was running fine before the charging loop was fitted. Now it wont idle or run at slow speeds. Does anyone have any experience of the sort of problems that can occur is a charging loop is badly fitted?

Thanks for your reponses everyone.
Dave
