I`ve got an `86 f9.9AE Yamaha 4 stroke dual thrust. Recently on start up it smokes quite a bit and sometimes will not rev above 1800 rpm. If left to idle for 5 minutes or so, stops smoking and cruises without problems all day. No noticeable loss in oil level. Any ideas?

Before you come into port on the way home, make sure you have run the motor at WOT to burn out, check you oil levels.

also try trimming/tilting the engine up when done.
if the clyinder bores spark plug end is below horizontal oil can run past the rings and collect in the combustion chambers.
its a simple fact of life on a 4 stroke engine.
so try storing it with the cylinders tilted so oil has to run back into the crankcase and not towards the spark plugs.
