Snap fastener screw length?

I need to replace the boat side snap fasteners for the cockpit cover since some of the current ones aren't stainless and are causing rusty streak down the hull.

The current ones use 10mm 1/2" screws and all I seem to be able to find local/amazon, I'm in Canada, are ones with 15mm 5/8" long screws. Any potential issues using longer ones?

No that length be fine. There nothing under it for it to go into.

Should I pre-drill the extra length or just screw them in?

Just screw them in.

Put some sealant on the screws when you screw them in
