1986 175hp v6 merc.

on cold start I think she is sneezing. I did a search on sneezing and learned that it is a lean condition.
The carbs on this engine do not have idle mix screws that I am aware of.

only sneezes on first start of the day. one to three times and often will cause it to stall.

after first run of the day everything is good.

any advice?

Re: sneeze?

Hold key in while cranking and for a few seconds after it starts to feed more fuel

Re: sneeze?

ok will do that. That actualy did cross my mind.
I also was doing some reading last night and wondered if I should change the idle jets.

however I am nearly 100% certain they are factory orginal witch would lead me to believe they should be fine.
I live and run the boat at sea level.

Re: sneeze?

i am running the same motor jig, have you checked the fuel filter out???? maybe time for a new one , sometimes having a person prime the bulb while you are trying to start will fire her up.

Re: sneeze?

Thats normal for that age engine,so let it run at a fast idle(1200rpm) till engine gets some heat in it and the crankcase wetted down.(1-3 minutes)
