1988 150 blk max

When I start the motor in the morning it tends to sneeze (the only way I can describe it). It starts up after a few sneezes and runs great after that. Another thing I noticed is sometimes there is a small amt. of feul comming out of the prop when I tilt it down after it gets raised during a break. Either symptoms a problem? Other than that it runs great!
Thanks,

Dead Eye

Cold 2 Strokes are always a bit unpredictable. The fuel is from flooding. It has an oulet that lets the excess fuel escape, hence fuel down near the prop. It sounds just like mine...
I don't think there is a problem with it.

Do a search on pumping the bulb. I had the exact same symptoms on my brand new Merc 90.

There was a discussion a few weeks ago about pumping the bulb. Since the, I pump the bulb about 10 times to get it good and hard.

Put the key in the on position. Press in for choke and crank. Engine starts perfectly.

Don't even have to advanc the trottle advance.

Pump the bulb...Cheap fix...

Dead Eye,

The "sneezing" is what's called a 'lean pop'. It happens because the fuel is too lean to fire properly and causes a 'back-fire' through the carb. This is quite normal when the engine is cold, because the choke system on an outboard isn't the same as a car. The outboard choke is either 'on' or 'off', not partial closing like a car. If it does it when the engine is warm, then the idle is set too lean, and that can cause problems.

Chris..................

What Achris says. You might try choking (or priming if it has no choke) a bit more after its started until it warms up.
