So I woke up this morning to a light snowfall. That prompted me to remember what I had been forgetting to do: Pull out and prep the snowblower. This is one of those big old Allis-Chalmers job that can clear a sidewalk in one pass. Its a beautiful thing, it runs like a Harley, and wakes all the neighbors in a three mile radius. I pulled the boat out of the garage, then unburied the snowblower out from under a pile of crap, and got it running. I thought that was that until I went out later and saw that it had leaked its 2 gallon fuel capacity all over the garage floor. I tore the carb apart, cleaned the float needle and seat, and figured that fixed it. Put more fuel in and saw that it was leaking from the fuel line where it connects to the tank. I had to tear all the stuff off of the engine to get the hose out to replace it. All this in 15 to 20 mile an hour winds and about 30 degrees because I couldn't do it in the garage because the fumes were too much. Got that all done and then cleaned the fuel spill. I love winter.....

Re: Snowblower fun fest

mega condolances Jason--
I have a 400 foot drive, mostly gravel, only 60' up at castle concrete.
I initially rigged a 42" two stage blower to an old Jacobson that I retrofitted a Briggs 16hp V-twin into. I put on more than one night time sparko-rama light show when gravel augered into the second stage.
I since gave up on that rig and pay a local plow jockey $21 US per session. This cost vastly offsets what I be paying to buy a decient blower and maintaining same. As well as storage space better used for necessities such as kids bikes, boats, three wheeler, blablabla------

Been thinking though, maybe gonna get a surplus flame thrower job and simply evaporate that white gold that keeps plow jockies and blower builders in Hawian vacations-- :D

I always have to remember that I chose to live here. I am a California native....I also plow snow in the winter, and my plan is to just use the plow truck to do my driveway, but I still need "backup". I doubt there will be any real snow here before Thanksgiving, but this is a wierd place, I have seen it not snow a bit some winters and others just dump like crazy from Halloween to Easter. Oh well....

Oz, Nosleep is from Canada, so that has to be Celsius, So he is running about, what, about -4 or 5? Still very cold! If I wasn't working on brick and siding I would be jealous. Just can't get that cold yet - got to finish the house, move, have Thanksgiving, hunt for 2 weeks, get ready for Christmas and New Years, then head back to Ghana! Hold out for me weather, get cold and snow on Thanksgiving Day!

Had a dusting on my deck last week here in upstate NY and some coverage threatened for next week. Wouldn't mind 6" or so for deer season and then it can all go away and we'll go fishin' again. Tell me it will! Please, please tell me it will!! :( :D

I have a long gravel driveway too. I have yet to have gravel even make me break a shear pin. I think this year will be the first. I just had the driveway dug out and had it regraveled. Not looking forward to replacing shear pins in the snow in the cold. I am glad I got the electric start though.

The happiest days of snowblower ownership are the days you buy one and the day you sell it.

I bought a 2-stage 8 hp. unit on my way home to Minniapolis in 1991. It was halloween. We got 30" that night.

How many of you have run five gallons of gas through an eight horse engine in one day? I don't know how much beer ran through me. :D I was sore for two weeks from wrestling with that thing.

The only bright spot is that I sold it in '98' for only $25.00 less than what I paid for it. No need for one in Phoenix! It was a love/hate relationship. I loved it for the job it did, but I hated what it represented-winter.
