I would try to let it get warmed up on muffs, then with the plug puller tool try pulling one plug wire at a time. See if one doesnt change the rpm's. I had a coil that would stop working after warmed up on my 65hp johnson hydroelec shift. I am experiencing the same prob right now as you with my 80' 75 hp, this trick didnt do it this time for me, hopefully you get some results.

Throwing parts at it is a shortcut to frustration, perron. That is where the old wrenches' saying comes from: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Oldyellow's advice is good, it is diagnostic and doesn't cost you anything to find out that spending money did no good at all. It will tell you which cylinder (or cylinders) is not making power so you can narrow down your troubleshooting to that cylinder or pair. Side by side dead cylinders have a bad carb, over under bad cylinders have a bad ignition system.

If you drop rpm when any cylinder is disabled they are all working at idle, so your trouble could be linkage and synchronization.

Just remember this: Part replacement is the most used, most expensive and least effective troubleshooting method known to man. Before you replace a part, demonstrate that it doesn't work.

Good luck with that old locomotive. :)
