I have done this job before like 6 months ago but would rather not go through it again since I'm getting ready to start 6 12's tomorrow.

I want the bellows to be replaced on my other boat, it has the same engine a mercruiser 260 350 and an alpha 1 outdrive.

how muhc should a marine mechanic charge me to replace the bellows on this boat?

I realize theres some different prices depending on what kit but let's say just labor...plus parts..how much should I pay for labor.

IMO from doing this, a mechanic thats done it a lot shouldn't charge anymore than like 250 for labor.

what do you think?

all depends man.... is it a salt or sweet water boat? does it have a swim platform? is the transom plate all corroded and need some painting? To many variables.

I called and was quoted $560 thats parts and labor.

this is a regular 19ft runabout with a 1985 mr outdrive..

nothing in the way as far as a platform or nothing and it's not corroded or nothing either..

seems high to me?? what do you think?

i'd guess that if i ask my dealer, how much. he'd say, i don't know. specially if he aint seen it. "too many variables" would sum it up for him too i would think. you know how one thing turns into another when your repairing boats. go after one item, and replace a 5 or 10 items + the labor to go along with it. i'd think that any est. you get, will be only that.
in working on my own boats i've found that i can understand why dealers or repair shops don't want to give a solid bid. one bolt gives ya a bad time and the whole game changes...

dang..so that sounds about right? yikes! olus I'm sure he quoted me that price using elcheapo parts..I meant to tell him quote me the price using the oem part number I had.

hmmm...would hate to do it but I might do this one myself too.

anyone else? what have you paid for this similiar outdrive to have new bellows and all put on?

new bellows and glue: $60-70. remove senders, hinge pins, helmut.install bellows . 4-8 hrs depending.
What about the shift boot, water inlet hose, gimbal bearing, engine alignment, etc.
a half-***** job now = twice the hit on the wallet.

If you don't like the price, do it yourself.
If it don't work, then you know who to blame.

Here is a perfect example of what happens when things you can't see go bad.

Last I heard shops around here were charging $80/hour. Sounds like your quote is $100 in parts and about 6 hours labor. Probably about right for a 24 year old boat.

You've done the job yourself, is it worth about $450 to you to have someone else do it?
