When I adjusted to 32 degrees, the dist adjustment screw was in so the distance between the screw posts was about 1/4 inch compared to the specs of between 3/8 and 1/2. Anyway, here is a movie where I am tapping on the belt and pressing it in, to get short or long sparks on the #1 plug. Is that a good spark? Engine still runs like crap.

The good news is: That is a nice strong spark----The bad news is that the Motorola CD box needs to be replaced!

When you push on the belt you should get one spark for each push; a single snap, not the bzzzzzt. Internally, the gate transistor that dumps the capacitors is either going or gone. If the engine still runs at all, it won't be long before it will not even start.

AND, the CD box is potted in epoxy. While it could be repaired, it would cost as much or more than a replacement.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

So will replacement part 115-3301 for $227 at http://www.go2marine.com/product/67676F/cd-ignition.html do the trick for the CD box. Mastertech appears ot have the same part at http://www.maxrules.com/graphics/force/115-3301.jpg. but the price is $340 .

Now I find I can get it in Seattle for $171 http://www.seawaymarine.com/pages/OemParts?aribrand=MRC#/s/MRC//FA523301/1

But again, can someone confirm this is the replacement I need.

As always Frank, thanks for your time and knowledge.

I have never used these parts so therefore I can not comment on whether or not they will do the job. Unless someone else that has used them jumps in, you will just need to take the gamble.

However, before you do jump, why not contact Franz at franzmarine@aol.com? See if he has a used finned motorlola unit like yours and what the price would be.

That part CDI Electronics 115-3301 will do the job perfect. I have equipped my 70Hp 1970 (points distributor) and 75Hp 1977 (electronic eye distributor) with it and it works excellent. It hasn?t any tach wire....just for information.
I have bought them from Franz Marine, do not remember the price, it was over six mounth ago, but 171 bucks sounds good. I think I paied about 200 bucks but not sure.
It comes complete with ign.coil and I think it is better to buy 115-3301 then a used factory made Motorola CD pack, it can fail immediatelly.
I know that Franz has new factory made Motorola CD packs, but they costs nearly the double as CDI 115-3301.
