I have been working on a 1984 50 hp force for quite some time. When I first purchased the motor it would start fine other than needing a carb job. One weekend I went out to start it and when I turned the key nothing happend and such has been the story for many months. I have replaced the startor motor, starter selonoide, rectifier, neutral safety switch, and finally the ignition switch with the same result each time. I have tried a few different batteries changed connections on all wires. I cannot think of anything else to change if anyone has any ideas they would be very much appreciated. other than basic mechanical skills I have no idea what im doing with this motor, this is my first one, thankyou.

Are you putting the lanyard clip on the kill switch when trying to start engine?

Recheck all ground wires and wire connections and any butt connectors. I know you said you've done this already but there might be one you've over looked or didn't get connected right.

I was gonna say, "PLEASE stop throwing parts at it!" but I don't think there are any more parts to throw at it.

Now, do what you should have done in the first place. . .troubleshoot.

First, get a manual and use it.

Then go to the Engine FAQs and do "Outboard won't start".

Let us know what you find.
