We brought our boat home to get it ready for winter last weekend. My wife took the kids out to dinner with a friend so i thought I would make the best of the time. I washed our boat but it didn't meet my expectations. So I broke out the makita buffing wheel and went to town. Followed it up with a good healthy wax. It was now 2 and a half hours later my wife pulls back in and I'm just finishing wiping the rest of the wax off. She steps out of the car and say's "wow, the boat looks great!" She has never noticed before!!!!!! She was all about it until I told her I haven't even been inside yet. There goes a couple more hours!

It takes a long time to detail your boat. Its great she noticed what a difference buffing it made. It a lot of work which she obviously appreciated. Ours is long overdue for the same treatment.

We have a friend who takes so much time detailing his boat after each outing, that he hardly takes it out anymore because he dosen't want to get it messed up. I just shake my head at him.

I had a friend that was the same way. He since sold the boat. There comes a point when being picky is a bad thing.

I get harrassed because I won't allow shoes in my boat. When people walk out on the dock I'll stop them in their tracks before they step in if they have shoes on. If you get in my boat with shoes on, it gives me the right to go eat chex mix in your bed and get crumbs everywhere!

Mine gets a bit grungy, maybe not that bad from use. We will sometimes spend an afternoon and go after it with pressure washer and simple green. It's our boat, so we both work on it.

Its a nice feeling when the boat is clean and polished. Its a lot of work, and it takes time. I find keeping the boat clean is easier when all the stuff is unloaded as soon as its back home. Leaving wet towels, garbage tied up in bags and the days collection of sea animals in the boat can cause a real stench if let go a while.

When I'm done with the wax job, I am glad I have a small boat!

Re: So proud of my wife!

My wife notices nothing on the boat. I've totally restored an older sailboat
this past summer. After painting the topsides and the deck, redoing all the
brightwork, and fabricating and finishing new boards, took her to the boat
and she said; "What, did you wash it?". Grrrrr.

It's all ok though, everytime she asks if the pants make her butt look fat, I
say "Yes they do, honey. Yes they do".

Mark42, what you said reminded me of the lost hermit crab collection that was found too late.

I found if I do half of the boat and then show her a before and after, she has a better appreciation for the work.

I know many people here rave by it, custodians use it at work by the 50 gal drum, maybe that's why I hate it so much, the smell of simple green makes me sick, i would rather smell dead fish guts.

The oily bait scent I use is fish oil based, and apparently oxidizes like paint. It takes some real stuff to get it off.

Of course I then rinse off the simple green.:D

Believe me, it takes much more diplomacy than that to keep a wife. BTW, which one is this one?

Oddly enough, it's the first one and she's been around for 24 years.

...of course, here lately she's been eyeing me really funny everytime I eat.
I've been feeling a little "odd" lately after each meal. Maybe that explains
the weight and hair loss.....hmmmm

The only explanation I have for the longevity of my marriage is that my wife is a saint.:D
