I guess this topic has more than likely has come up on this forum before but I need coils for this motor. I have tried several dealerships, I get the same response from all of them " If you can find them they will be expensive." Since the motor is no good without htem I thought I would try to find the parts needed to fix it. Thanks for any info you can provide. Jackdog

jackdog
Did you try the shopping mall here at iboats? I have a '73 65 hp Rude I have found most of my parts either here or other online vendors a whole lot cheaper than local dealer. When Im get home I mwill look at my favorites and send you some links. Just remeber you wwill need the model number when you order parts. You may try Ebay, just be careful of what you are bidding on and make sure to ask all the questions. The boat parts are now under Ebay motors.
Hugh

JD,
Does NAPA auto parts do business in your neck of the woods? If so, you found your parts source. They can order Sierra brand marine parts. I got coils and a tune up kit for much older Gale/Evinrude for about $60. The coils were about $21 apiece. If you're gonna do coils you might as well do points/condensors while you're in there. If you don't have a NAPA handy, go to sierramarine.com and find a distributor in your state. Or go to the antique outboard motor club, inc., aomci.org on the web. They have a good links page for parts, etc. You should be able to find the parts locally through NAPA though.

Almost any Johnson/Evinrude dealer should have the #584477 coil in stock as it's been used since 1950 up thru 1990 on many small motors (40hp and lower, under flywheel) with points and condensor ignition. This coil supercedes many previous part numbers used over the years. It is about $24 and comes with a 1 year parts and labor warranty.

JackDog... Strange why those dealerships would say that. But at any rate, I do have a few of those coils left in my remaining stock. They have a list price of about $30 each. I'll sell two for $23 each ($46.00) and take care of shipping. If you're interested, contact me via e-mail so as not to tie up the site. ReevesJ32@aol.com
