well, yes, I wasted a little time yesterday with some posts, but they fly off my fingers so fast they really arent problematic in regards to the time they take to write, its more the residual fume factor that remains once written, that reparation azzwipe should be blowtorched, but thats another story ...

I was up til seven in the morning doing those art studies, and then cranking out a presentation for Darwin today, having gotten a whole three hours of fitful sleep, ive been pushing since school started, I knowingly elected to take on the first presentation in Systems, but was unaware of how fast the museum trip paper was coming up, the last few weekends have been all study, constantly, and well, my health is not responding too well, pounding headaches, nosebleeds, went to the doc friday and even on the load of blood pressure meds I take (diuretics, potassium, diovan AND two verapamil AND a norvasc, its still booming along at 170 / 95) lol, chill pill is no chit!

so I have the midterm presentation of the art studies, tons of em, and a presentation on Darwin, as I said. underslept, overstressed, finally hit the road. pulling away from a light, i hear a PING! and the car is juddering

oh darn ... NOW the u joint goes? I turned around before I got shanghaied onto a limited access road and made it just off the main drag when banging from hell cuts loose

ALL THAT WORK FOR NOTHING!!!

utter defeat, not even the Great Raymundo, jury rigger supreme, can cobble up something to get a busted U joint, coat hangers and duct tape have thier limits

now, has anyone heard bad things about the mid nineties blazer/ jimmy? 4.3 vortec aughta get the job done, and still get decent mileage

the toyota 4 runner is a thought as well, but I dont know if they are roomy and comfy as the Blazer/ Jimmy

I just figure they are ten years old, not twenty, and junkyards have parts for em if you need em ...

they laugh at you if call a junkyard for a twenty year old car!!!!!

just something to tow the toys around, and still get half decent mileage

and hang in there a few years!!

Ray, check out the Jeep Cherokee in that vintage.
The 4.0 inline six is a High Output with multipoint F. I.. These motors are very solid.
All the kinks have been worked out since they've been in production for a long time.

You'll be able to pick up one of these for a lot less then a Toyota or the Blazer.

I had an 88 chev s-10 blazer with a 4.3 and that thing just never quit. Blew the motor at 190,000 $800 dollers later I was back on the road for another 100k and sold it to a friend for what I paid. Tow like a V-8 and took me places no vehicle had any buiseness being. wish I kept it.

Re: So ya think YOUR day was bad??

Hey its me again...
Funny story, I was towing my blazer behind the motorhome up to elk camp in colorado not to far from the divide on some secondary road when a county sheriff pulls me over and asks me if I knew I was dragging my blazer. Just as I'm thinkin what kind of mental giant is this barney fiffe I think better of asking him why hees being such a smart azz and walk around behind the motorhome and........My blazer was setting there with no rear wheel, no brake drum, and half of one leaf spring left with a skid mark as far as you could see. Turned out a wheel bearing had seazed up got hot enoufgh to snap the axle and I had drug it that way for about two miles. Told the cop that I was only about 40 miles from camp and would it be ok if I left it there while hunted. On my way home I picked up a flatbed trailer and hauled it to a junkyard bought a new rearend had it installed and went home. Yeah my blazer was better to me than I was to it.

All I know about them jimmys, is if it starts runnin real bad, won't accellerate, etc; replace the egr? sensor/valve first off.

Sister and 2 friends had troubles with them.

They are a bit small for me. I need more cargo space. I have the GMC Safari van with 4.3, but no 4wd :(

Nearest Toyota dealer is more than 70 miles away.
There are 3, no 4 Chevy dealers, and 3 GMC dealers between here, and the nearest Toyota (or any other import) dealer.

Advantage GM. :p

4.3 Vortec is a solid engine. Go with the GMC/Chevy, you won't be sorry - unless you get a bad one, then it will be a different story ... ;)

How's that for a liability tagline? :D

Re: So ya think YOUR day was bad??

lol, a giant sized    at YOU neumanns, lol, barney fife - what sort of nuclear powered motorhome did you have that you didnt feel that **** thing DRAGGING ON THE GROUND??

hehehe ... cause I WANT That motorhome!

well, nah, prolly a big block gas sucker

unless it was going DOWN the mountain, then it would be like a sea anchor of sorts

I like them thar jeeps, and that 4 liter six has stood the test of time, fer sure, but the human area is tiny

I love fords, but the explorers in the years I can afFORD, are tranny lunchers, tho the rich girl had a 97 explorer, sweetest SUV I ever drove, (and another girl I knew had a lexus RX 300!)

the assorted rice burners would be ok I suppose, would no doubt last longer UNLESS I start towing a lot of stuff around

but I figured like this ... and quite frankly, with the pervasive funzalow situation, well, this would work better - run the blazer, then when it dies ina few years, rebuild it - when I used to rebuild, I would use felpro premium gaskets and a touch of RTV black, never leaked ANYTHING, and I would run em a few hundred thousand miles

blazer/jimmy, the little guy, both of my little boats could be towed by him, and I think they have a 5000 limit

which is roughly what the big boy goes, eh, I dunno, the 4.3 is a beast of a motor, Im sure the torque of the thing would roll it right down the road, its more the STOPPING problem, unless I want to bite the bullet and replace the brake system on the trailer

I love to be able to carry stuff too, as evidenced by that picture of the stuffed trucnk, but I can learn to adapt

besides, for carrying large items they have a cargo carrier that mounts in the reciever for the class three hitch

and the blazer jimmy is comfortable, quiet and not that I am a gadget freak  , but its almost impossible to find where they ARENT loaded!

yeah I know, more to break ...

the chevy will be ready this afternoon, and I swear she did that cause I talked about getting a blazer earlier this weekend ... of course, as I sat there considering my options, I had the ac on and revved it a few times, turbine smoothness, the response of a brand new motor, except for the valve guide smoke, :D shes like new ... but I have a feeling that R700 is suspect, the fluid level is fine, but shes hanging the shifts just a bit too much, I suppose I could throw a shift kit in there to slow down the damage

but thats where things are now, with any luck, Ill have the wheels back this afternoon, and see about an upgrade this weekend, so many people drive blazers for cars they got to have the four wheel part figured out (reliable, not functional!)

the only danger is, of course, and as always, ME

the Pine Barrens are a few minutes away, all those sandy roads and hidden little ponds ripe for the autumn pickin, whoops, did I have a paper due today?

::sound of a lure hitting the water, surrounded by the smell of pine and fresh air and freedom::

gee, I guess Ill get to it tomorrow, Im busy today!

:D :D :D

anyway, thanks for the feedback!

Re: So ya think YOUR day was bad??

I had a '95 Blazer. I replaced the egr valve twice. Replaced the heater core, the radiator, the water pump, the hoses. Everything with the cooling system leaked. The cooling system had rust in it that just would not stop, I would replace the antifreeze and within a couple of months it would be dirty orange again.

It ran good though and never had any problem with starting or anything like that. The 4.3 V6 ran good and pulled OK but I think the 4.0 straight 6 in my '97 Jeep pulls a load better.

Re: So ya think YOUR day was bad??

Hey Ray, I have a 1996 S-10 manual tranny, tow rating to 4000#'s and this thing is great. 4.3l if it had a different rear the tow rating would be 5k. I have 150k on it and it's still going strong. I get great gas mileage @ 20 mpg wich is pretty good for a 4wd truck. If anything its not big enough for the family thats why we are going to the bigger truck.

Hope this helps.

John

Re: So ya think YOUR day was bad??

jgregory, I hear ya on the bigger thing, my family is not going to get any more members in it, lol, my only concern at this point is my comfort, and the capacity to get good mileage while on my many jaunts

the SeaCraft is a single engine beastie, on an aluminum trailer, so despite her intimidating size (HUGE even behind the Goliath sized Big Green 76 E 150 van!) she is not a deadwieght, but still a bit to stop in a hurry - guess I better fix those brakes!

Re: So ya think YOUR day was bad??

chev 454, holly carbs and with headers coupled with a 3 speed auto. she got 7.6-8.2 mpg flat or mountian towing or not uphill or down.70 or 55 mph, nothing affected it except heat. Run just a little doggier and got closer to 7.6 when it was over 90 degrees out. had a lot of funn in that rig. I could leave a stop sign with blazer in tow and walk away from all but the fastest vehicles.

The only think I found odd was I could usually just see the top of the s-10 out the back window and could usually see the Rear quarter of it on sharp turns. I had noticed I couldnt see either hardly at all so i drifted over to the oncomming lane and snapped it back. I did this a couple times before I was pulled over and figured that was the reason for the stop. Cop was great about the hole situation and had a good laufgh that I couldn't see the trail of sparks I was trowing. Laufgh was about all I could do at that point, no sense in crying.

Re: So ya think YOUR day was bad??

Had a 93 Olds Bravada, same as a blazer/jimmy only fulltime 4wd. Bought it 2 years ago had the engine replace, spun a crank bearing. The CPI (cental port injection) had a crack in one of the lines and fuel flooded the oil pan which thinned the oil and so on and so on. Anyway dropped the new engine in her and she ran with the best of them. The GM 4.3ltr is an awsome engine, darn near bullet proof. She took me thru some VERY deep mud and sand and never skipped a beat. Would still have her if it wasnt for the need of a bigger vehicle.... aaahh the Tahoe will never be gotten rid of . Go for the GM!!

Re: So ya think YOUR day was bad??

sorry bout that MY, I bet you have dial up, Im used to this DSL thing snapping right into view

neumanns, I bet that 454 rocks and rolls along, my Apollo had a 455, same idea, immense torque, and intimate knowledge of all gas stations along any route, lol

of course, the hardest hitter of all my beasts was the small block GMC wrecker, with that 5.13 rear, pull a house down, used to pull motorhomes like yours like they werent even on the truck, but running a taxi back to AC from philly I burnt a tank up, course, the 200 bucks filled her up and then some!

the 500 cube caddy was no slouch either, lol

wellllll ... lemme flip a coin and kill a pic

:p
