Have a 2002 Mercury 40 hp ELPTO. I have to change the prop after bouncing it off the sand and cracking it.
My sockets only go to 13/16 and that wasn't big enough. So searched the net and found couple posts were they say 1" or 1 1/16. Then watched a Youtube video on changing a 2003 Mercury ELPTO 50hp and he said 15/16.
So like to make only one trip to buy a socket so anyone know which it is for my 2002 Mercury 40 ELPTO ?
Also a good grease to lube it up.

Thanks
Mark

Re: socket size

if I were you I would call the dealer to be positive then buy a floating prop wrench to keep on the boat after you are done, if you need to change the prop on the water they are life savors because I find you always drop the wrench when making sure you don't lose the nut and washer.

Re: socket size

Well, the prop section lists the prop wrench as a 15/16". :)

Any heavy duty tube grease will be fine to lubricate the propshaft splines. If you run in saltwater, a marine-grade grease is a little better. I use the marine-grade grease for everything, since I only want one kind of grease hanging around.
