I got pictures everywhere and I need help organizing them. My wife got a digital camera about a year and a half ago. I store pics of everything on my pc and they are everywhere. I got folders inside of other folders, in "my documents", "my pictures", folders on the desktop with pictures in the folder and other folders in that folder with pictures and groups of pictures in that. Lately i find the easiest way to find a picture now is go to search for files or folders/ all files/ and then i have to make sure its looking in sub-folders and hidden folders/ then search all pictures. I get the results and they are EVERYWHERE!! I know that i can just start sorting them by draging and dropping them into groups and folders all in the same place. What I would love is after i get it all sorted out, to find some kind of software to help me manage them and group them together. I got my wife's pictures of stuff with my boat restoration pictures that i want to add to shareaproject. I havent added to my shareaproject page cause i get frustrated everytime i try to find the picture to the next step. Anyone know of any kind of software that does that? I really need help! I got to get this stuff strait. Thanks so much for any help!!

I use Kodak Easyshare for mine.
Will let you group pics by name, date taken etc.
Will list last loaded and all the files by whatever you name them.

I use Picasa and it is a simple program with decent features. Cost effective (free) and if you download it and run it it will scan your computer for ALL photos and group them. I think you will be impresses on how many photos are actually in your computer.

Picasa has my vote.

Re: Software to manage pictures on your PC??

Just downloaded it and just playing around with it some.
Question, I have it on my desktop and when I open an email and want to send a picture, I can not locate it on my desktop.
What am I doing wrong?
I can select a picture from it to send email, but my other programs let's me browse and find it.

If you have an email already open I would not worry about Picasa, just use the email program to find the file and post it.If you want to send a pic from Picasa then select it and follow the prompts.Ron G

Lester,

If you browse My Documents go to My Picutes all the Picasa folders are there. You can save from your email or the internet too..... just save to My Pictures.

Once you have saved into Picasa you can drag and re-arrange photos as needed into different folders.

I was just playing around with Picasa and wanted to test sending a pic by email and went to browse for one in Picasa which is stored on my desktop and it does not show it.
I can go to Picasa and click on one to send and all is good, but not from the create email form.
I can see pics anywhere else I have them stored, even on my desktop, but not Picasa.

I think he has Picasa installed on his desk top and it like sounds he's browsing from his E-Mail and finding the Picasa Program Icon on his desktop in which case his pitcures wouldn't be there........I THINK.......MAYBE..

Anyway like stated above send the pictures from your E-Mail browse, my pictures add attachment.

You can E-Mail from Picasa once the program is opened DEPENDING on what E-Mail service you are using there may be some POP issues though.

Good Luck!

Re: Software to manage pictures on your PC??

Picasa just catalogs the pics on your computer. It makes a directory that points to the file locations on your computer. If it duplicated all the pics on your computer most of us would run out of room and our harddrive would be full.Picasa wouldn't be too popular with that reputation I would imagine.
That Irfanview program installs an icon on your desktop named "Thumbnails" that also inventories your PC and all its drives for pictures and I find it quite handy when searching for a pic.It is a small program as well and does not need the resources that Picasa does to do its thing. That would be a consideration for an older computer that a lot of us are still using, not by choice as often as not.Ron G
