Solar charged battery question

I've had a small solar panel charging a lifepo battery for a couple years which then powers an LED light. The battery has a built in BMS.

The black wire keeps corrosion and I have to cut back a couple feet. Why is this happening? I want to set up a solar panel for my lifepo trolling batteries but dont want to damage those wires.

Boate wires 8 ga, other is 12 ga if that matters.

The battery is this

Bad stretch of wire maybe. I might try splicing in a pigtail of different wire to see how it does if was mine.

The wire size should not matter unless it is heating up because of too much current.

Tinned marine wire?
No, it's on the house. The first 12 ft or so is vertically tucked into the corner of the vinyl siding, the rest is under the house and/or deck. Now, I've never put the battery in a box? It's been under the deck. Takes a couple years to corrode.

Use batter terminal grease on the battery lugs after you change the wiring

Is there any chance the is some chemical reaction , I mean like weed killer etc . Just that I have had environmental contamination with copper , mostly with portable chillers ( big enough for 3-4 cattle carcases ) on farms where the fertilizer dust has corroded the copper tubing .
For what its worth I bought a Temu solar battery maintainer and it has held my main battery (210ah ) at full charge for over 18 months while it sat in the shed , Id buy another .

No sir, 20 feet from anything organic.

The corrosion is from a tiny current leak due to moisture on the panel's surface. It creates electrolysis which eats the negative wire. Seal all connections with adhesive heat shrink or liquid electrical tape. Keep the connections dry and elevated off wet surfaces. The wire gauge itself isn't the cause.

It is a chemical reaction of Copper plated connectors. Ihave had it eat away plus or minus battery post connectors. Copper plated any metals. Will corrode after several months. Damp locations, are the worst locations.
