Solenoid? Fuse? Neutral Saftey Switch?

Been having trouble starting a 1994 Merc 90HP. Earlier this year, the motor would start intermittenly. It got worse and eventually would do nothing, but could hear the solenoid clicking. I've replaced the solenoid and removed and tested the starter. Still just getting a click. I'm measuring 12V at the solenoid, but getting 0 V at the other terminal when the key is turned. I'm really stumped on where to go next.

Would the solenoid still click if their was a problem with the ignition or neutral saftey switch?

I've checked the 20A fuse in the main harness. Can anyone tell me if their is another fuse to check somewhere else?

What am I missing here? This is really frustrating. Any help is appreciated.

Brad; are you saying that when the key is turned to start position the sol. only clicks and starter does not engage to rotate the eng.?If so did you try manual pull start to see if it will start.if not run turn key to run pos.and jump the sol. contact for the starter and see if it turns eng. over,if it doesn'turn over, could be sol.or bad batt. since you had starter checked out and found to be GOOD.

If you're getting 12vdc to the solenoid from the battery but nothing to the starter when the solenoid "clicks", the solenoid is defective or the battery cable is loose or corroded at the battery. When the switch is in the "Start" position, what's the voltage at the solenod / battery post?

c/6
Hooty
