Manual refers to high and low OHM's when testing solenoid.
I can't seem to find a reference defining high and low.
Can anyone help?
Thanks Mike

Re: Solenoid testing

Your ohmeter should have a variety of test ranges. 0-1 ohm would be a very low ohms scale and suitable for testing a solenoid. 0-10k ohms would be a relitavly high ohms scale suitable for testing coils. No way to tell from here what is available on your particular meter.

Re: Solenoid testing

I am using a LCD digital multi-meter with modes for volts and ohms.
Is less than two ohms low?

0 Ohms is equal to no resistance so yes -- less than two ohms is low. When discussing resistance, high and low are relative terms. It depends on what you are talking about. If you are measuring resistance of something that is supposed to measure 10,000 ohms and it measures 5,000 ohms, then 5,000 ohms is low.

A solenoid can check good with an ohm meter but still be bad especially across the secondary where high amperage is required for the starter. If you suspect its bad, replace it. Its cheap insurance.
