I've seen some solstice boats that are really well priced with aluminum slat floors....what concerns me is the fabric material is only 500 denier....hell even my mariner 4 is 1000 and other saturns I've been eyeing are 1100....anyone have one of these? or opinions?
Thanks

That soubds very thin, which althiugh great for prophylaxis, not so good for boating, lol! Even among reported specs thats "bad". My Saturn seens a "thin" 1100 compared to the Merc which is also 1100. I can't imagine what a "thin" 500 might be!

I would definitely leave that one alone unless you are A) only using it on lakes, B) using it with low power, if powered at all< C) weight is a majr concern because at that denier, the thing has to be a fly weight!, and D) are really looking to save money and consider it very disposable.... as in I am tired of patching this SOB... out she goes! Lol.

For the low price can't ask too much. it's still a 0.5 mm 3 layer thin pvc fabric and welded seams. Much better than buying same 0.5 mm 1 layer vynil sheet first starters like the sibs that have heat welded pleated lateral seams. Ideal for low cost basic short range boating.

If that's the one offered at WM, check buyers reviews, then decide....

Happy Boating

Well it says it has a keel, so assuming something even moderately deep (V shaped) and assuming they shored up the motor mount facilities, it is conceivable there will be a vast performance (if not endurance) difference, as in it might actually be designed with planing in mind. The overall shape (that bob-tailed thing) would lead me to believe not, but it would seem that it should based on those differences otherwise why bother putting a keel on something not really shaped for best hydrodynamics.

80% of the boats I see on ebay are zodiac zoom or Saturn rip offs

As is usually the case Wrimed.... Your words ring true! Solstice wouldn't be where I spent my money unless I had VERY specific reasons for choosing it over others.... And I can't think what those reasons MIGHT be, lol.
