A closer look inside the exhaust case, I noticed that there are tiny holes on the left side that I would imagine push water into the head cover? All of them were plugged up with pebbles the exact size of the holes... This is what is leading me to believe I should take off the head cover and check it for more obstructions.

Frank mentioned thos holes and how valuable they are in one of my overheating posts I'm sure.

Take the head off if you want- you should probably get a new head gasket- If it was me, I'd run it after the exhaust.

My overheat problem- yes, the pics are TERRIBLE- was resolved after the exhaust plate was replaced. I never removed my head- so to speak!

Yeah, your exhaust was waaaaay worse than mine. I'm going to take your advice and run it as soon as these gaskets come in (hopefully before the weekend) sinceI don't have a torque wrench for the bolts and I really don't want to wait on another part to come in. I had never even looked at an outboard motor before last month, so I need to take baby steps...By the way, how the heck did you get those old gaskets off?

Ok... so I finally got all the crap cleaned out of the exhaust cover, pulled the pebbles out of the small holes in the water jacket and put it all back together. I ran it all day Saturday (about 8 hours) through a tank and a half of gas and the engine never once even got warm. The motor is running great and I couldn't have done it without your help.

Thanks Guys!

Nope.. no broken bolts. You can credit that to the forum too. If I hadn't been warned, who knows...
