Mercury sucks for service manual availability, I live in Canada so i pay a $20 premium for having the privilege to buy one. 3 weeks and it is still not here! I am only 1 hour away from the border!

back to a happier mode:)
I have read the earlier thread with the guy and the 85 merc, but, I am thinking its a different issue....
I have received some help from the guys on this board (thanks) and am almost there:

-2007 40HP Mercury FS
-Trim plate removed and nut holding lower end on removed
-4 bolts that were visible removed (2 from each side)
-vent screws loosened

prop end of lower unit drops about 2mm but the front part is not dropping:
-I have given it a gentle smack with a rubber mallet
-put the outboard vertical instead of the usual angle (mistake?)
-the engine is in neutral

I really want to get this thing of by Monday so the skeg guy can pick it up on his weekly run.
What now?

OK....its off.

There is a small dowel at the front end of gearcase. I just needed to smack it right with the mallet and wood.

No linkage to disconnect as with other Mercury outboards.

thanks all who posted good info
