Some input on a new prop....

I gathered the info recommended this weekend so here goes.....

1) No real performance issues just going to buy a 2nd prop and figured one that was better suited for my set up would be good
2) Current prop is the stock aluminum prop
3) Current prop 14.5 x 19 pitch .
4) Wide open throttle RPM and speed is 300 rpm over the recommended 4200-4600 with a speed of 42 GPS
5) 1999 3.0l Volvo Penta rated 135HP
6) 1999 17' Glastron open bow 2300 lbs dry....

Was wanting to go to a 4 blade aluminum prop ( SS is crazy price here) any help in choosing a new prop would be appreciated...... mostly used for just playing and next year tubing...... so top speed is not an issue....

Thanks

Al

Re: Some input on a new prop....

If you are doing primarily water sports -- then the prop you have is just fine as it provides the necessary "grunt" that towing water toys and skiers requires. You can always throttle back if you hit the upper end of the rpm band. If you increase pitch to drop rpm, you also adversely affect hole shot so the engine works harder when doing water sports.

If you want a 4 blade, (and I love them) go to a 18p and you should not see any significant change in performance.
In my opinion a 4 blade is way better at slow and mid speed and on my boat it make no change in top end. I think they also handle better. I can get a bit more trim with a 4 blade so I dont see any change in top speed.

I agree with S.
Your performance is right on with a very respectable 6% slip.Just watch the rpm.
If your going to buy a prop get a 19"4 blade,It will improve water sports and
stay on plane with less throttle and fiddling. and handle better at the dock.
Will lower rpm 100 or 200 with a little less top end.
If you don't like the 4blade results use it for a spare.
