Last part of my "tune up" is the spark plug wires.
Anyone have a good suggestion of a decent set of wires that are not $90 from Volvo Penta?
Maybe something that I can buy at an auto store?
Im a fresh water boater, so no real worries of salt corrosion for "marine" wires.
Boat motor is a:
5.7L GXI-A
350 Chevy

Looking online for cross references gives me a TON of conflicting info. Anyone have my same set up with no VP wires?

Thanks for all your input in advance!

If you had a traditional dizzy cap you should be able to find a set of wires for under $40. I did for my 271C

http://www.iboats.com/Wiring-Plug-S...160914--session_id.128680277--view_id.1354166

however your motor has the crap er crab cap on it. so you would be looking at something with straight boots

Rock Auto lists it for $89, VP lists them for $93 and Amazon list it for $90

A good set of automotive wires for a crab cap (not recommended on a boat) is about $60-$80. so save a few dollars, run the risk.

Also, Napa Auto parts sells Belden brand marine spark plug wires and can determine the right part number for you. However my Napa didn't have them in stock and I had to order them. They also make you pay the shipping ($11) unlike the other auto parts stores.

Ayuh,...... Saltwater is irrelevant,....

What makes Marine wires, is their Length,.....

Marine wires are considerably longer than automotive plug wire sets,....

You can build yer own, ya just need the right Ends/ connectors, on all 18 ends,...

He has a GXi-A(according to his first post). Not a GXi-B or C.

You are correct. The last letter could mean a whole lot different part when ordering replacement parts.
BTW: I went ahead and just ordered the VP wires. I guess you can say I was suckered in, but for a few bucks more, I dont have to worry about wire length, or wrong ends. Just replace and move on........(Im sure there is something else my boat will want replaced soon. haha)

Your engine use the same ignition cables as mine (Volvo Part# 3888326)

A direct replacement would be Standard Motor Products 4825M available from Rockauto for about 25$. They are the same length and works great.

Do wires, cap and rotors need to be marine specific like alternators? Just wondering. Also, what is wrong with the crab cap? I have one on my 4.3gxi-e.

Yes they are different. Marine cap use brass terminals and screws are corrosion resistant.

Thanks. I didn't know if they were made different to lessen the chance of explosion like marine starters and alternators are.
