Somethings wrong please help

I have a 1989 to 25 hp Johnson ocean runner when I put the earmuffs on it and crank it up it runs great but every time I take it to the lake it fires right up and idle strong when I put it in gear it dies I’ve had the carburetors rebuilt and taking it to several mechanics and they say everything is great I’m wondering What could be wrong

What is the compression? Does spark jump a 7/16" gap? Does it have a shift interrupt switch? If so is it working correctly?

Compression he is good will not start if it’s not in neutral

It is not supposed to start if it is not in neutral. What is good compression? and what are the answers to my other questions?

The " shift interrupt switch "----Is NOT the same item as the " start in neutral only " switch.
