my boat runs well most of the time. Why would an outboard carbed 4 stroke shut off when going into neutral but only sometimes. And when this starts happening it will not stop until I get the boat back on the trailer. Compression is at 180 psi on all 4. Carbs have been serviced, and all new fuel lines and tank replaced. New prop, New gear oil. New throttle cable. I do notice when I push the bypass button to advance the throttle with out engaging to forward or neutral i can hear the gears trying to engage. Could this be a shift cable adjustment problem . I sou do like the gears are banking just a little i can hear the clinging.

Thank you

welcome aboard

since you dont state what you have or what you are working on, going to make a general statement.

regarding the shift cable causing it to die going into neutral. that is generally the first place to look.
