So, my ex-sister-in-law calls me up and says, "are you interested in buying a boat?". I reply "always". She goes on to tell me that Uncle Fred has a boat in her garage and she would really like to be able to park her car there. So I go over and check it out. Of course it has all kindsa garage stuff piled up all around it. It has a nice heavy cover over the entire boat. It's a Thunderbird trihull bowrider with a 90 Merc on the back, I'm guessing late 70's - early 80's vintage. The hull is nice and shiny as is the motor - including the prop. I lift the cover a little along the port side a bit to see inside, another cover...canvas with windows. I couldn't get that up. But I did see a pristine interior. So I ask "What's Uncle Fred want for this thing?". She says $1000. I told her we need to get this puppy out of the garage so we can see what we have. This is a project - rearranging the entire garage, so I shortened my stay. From the initial look-see, this thing is close to new. Uncle Fred is about 170 years old. He hasn't seen a pier in decades. I asked "How long has this been sitting here?". She told me "decades". I can't wait to see if it has an hour meter.
I'll post pics when it comes out of the garage.

Now, personally this boat is not for me. But if it's half as good as what I can see so far, it should be easy to double the money.
OR
I have a 16' Hustler that needs a motor. I have a 50 Merc in the garage I'm just finishing up I was going to put on it. That would be like putting a 4 cylinder in a Vette though. I'm thinking put the 50 Merc on the trihull and the 90 on the Hustler and get rid of the trihull.

Thoughts?

if its pristine......sell and triple your money.......

a garage kept boat is a score for anybody.....and worth the cash.....kinda like finding that old car in a barn somewhere?

then you can fix your motor with little out of pocket cash

great score......cheers to unc !

Re: Sometimes you win

I hooked a friend up with it this morning.
He bought it over the phone sight unseen.
Uncle Fred said he had it out a total of five times.
We did a more thorough inspection today...almost showroom condition.
I could see myself in the paint on the powerhead.
