Could I expect from the coil. My 3 year old son loves working on the boat with me and surpringly he is rather good at getting tools for me. They other thing he is good at is turning switches and pushing buttons. Usally I check everything before I get out of the boat to make sure that all switches and keys are off. But this time a storm was rolling in and we had to make a mad dash for the house. Here is what I am wondering. He left the key on at it has been on since Tuesday I think. I charged the battery and it started right up, But I am leery of the coil possibly not working once everything gets worm. Should I get a new coil and battery or will I be all right? This is just a standard coil in a 23L. GM 4cyl. Mercruiser. Thanks fellas.

The coil is probably fine. Keep your eye on the battery. Get it charged back up completely and test it. If it's not too old, it's probably ok too.

My daughter did this and killed my 6-year-old battery just last week. It won't hold a charge now, but I figure it gives me some peace of mind by requiring me to buy a brand new one.

Thanks for the replies! The battery is brand new. And deep cell batteries can hold and take a charge a lot better then a standard car batt. So with this said Hopefully we can get out without issues, Thanks again8.)

This engine have points?

If the points were closed you could possibly have some burnt points.

I am glad your son didn't "crank"
the motor and start it, just when you had your hand
where it shouldn't be.
Bad daddy bad
