When I saw 1500 AUD right after the thread was opened, I knew I couldn't help from GA, so I didn't reply. Guess maybe I should have.

Hey achris .... Any pointers for sources of 4.3s down under?

Not an engine used in any vehicle in this country... I wish there was... Importing from the U.S. is our only option, and the government slap their slice on too...

Would I be better putting a 5L instead of the 4.3, not sure if the weight would be a issue

If you're referring to the Australian 308, forget it, different engine to the yank 305...

No just the mercruiser 5L

Yeah, that'll bolt straight up, most of the accessories will also bolt on. You'll need new exhaust manifolds and the the aluminium tubes below the exhaust elbows...

You need four inches in front of the existing 4.3 to slide in a 5.0 or 5,7, also side mounts on engine block will be 4” farther forward as well. I did the same swap 4.3-5.0 on my boat but the boat was offered with a 5.0 from the factory so the engine compartment was big enough and the stringer mounts were 12” long To accommodate either engine configuration

would definitely measure before picking up an engine as it would be a lot of work to stretch the engine house in some applications like mine where the bench seat is in front of the engine, stringer mounts can be glasses in fairly easy though
