I have a cdp-cx355 300 disc cd changer. It will load disc and the arm will take the disc to the area that has the laser eye, the disc will start to spin, but almost like it wont get up to speed, Ive read online that the laser eye goes bad, and I found a few online...But a big concern is the spin speed. The cd player will not recognize any cd I put in there, and will eject it back out after a short time.

Any thoughts on this? Id hate to throw this thing away as I have barely used it.

Re: sony cd player problem

Many times its not the laser but the worm gear that moves the laser along the disc, if you can hear the worm motor moving the laser back and forth trying to get a lock on the base sector thats likely what it is.

I have repaired them temporarily by packing the worm and nut with silicone grease to help take up the slack but it won't last long. I had a 5 disc changer that worked fine with the grease as long as the changer was mounted at a 45 degree angle to preload the laser. I used that changer for three more years before I threw it out.

Try tilting the changer at an angle and see if it suddenly can read the discs, if it can...you found the problem.
