Sorry, another jackplate question

I've done a search on this and other boards and have not found my issue. I'm thinking of installing either a Bob's ($$$$) or CMC ($$)hydraulic jackplate on my 198 DLX CAROLINA SKIFF w/90F YAMA. Not so much for performance issues but to get to the "skinny" water better. Has anyone installed either of these units on a DLX Carolina Skiff? Any issues, suggestions, photos would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have a Bobs on my 20 Dusky, a buddy has a Bobs on his 24 Carolina Skiff, another buddy has a Bobs on his 20 Mako, another buddy has a Porta bracket on his 22 Aquasport and on and on. All hydraulic.

None of these were rigged as raceboats obviously. Every one was for skinny water use. Youll be just fine.

BTW -- if you dont have a water pressure gauge, get one. Many of todays decent props will run high enough that youll lose water pressure before you lose bite.

Had a CMC on an my old flats boat. Was more of a trim and tilt, not a true jack plate. Worked fine. Mike

Cook makes both a true jackplate and a trim unit.

Re: Sorry, another jackplate question

I have a CMC on a 17' Mckee with a 140 HP Johnson. I just rerigged my boat so it took some getting use to. Best position, etc. The boat came with it so I can't talk about the "before and after". I like it. But I had to learn to tuck the engine all the way in to keep the bow down when getting up on plane and also prevent porpoising.
But that might be due to the way the boat is rigged. I removed the forward side consoles and replaced them with a smaller sit down center console.
If you don't have one already, add a water pressure gage. Important to ensure good water supply when running high.

Thanks guys for the info. Guess I'm going for it. CMC, BOBS, CMC, BOBS well, if I ever make up my feeble mind. Pressure gauge for sure with either one.
Thanks again,

Either one is a great choice. Personally I went with a Bob's because I wanted a 10" offset. Same thing goes for my buddy with the Carolina.

Dhadley,
What's the advantage to having the 10" offset?
Thanks

Clearance in the front for tilting, getting the balance point further back (bow lift) and getting the prop in "cleaner" water. It also gets the powerhead back out of the boat so theres more room. There is no splashwell in the Dusky so now we can walk right in front of the motor.
