I was thrilled about the Astros signing Andy Petitte, he's a great pitcher with a great personality. He also went to kindergarten with our daughter.

Then when I thought it couldn't get any better, since the Astros don't like to spend money, we now have Roger Clemens. He will retire wearing an Astros uniform, that is the sad part for so many long time fans.

I think Petitte was the key in getting him to sign with the Astros. :)

I knew once Pettite went to Texas, he would convince Clemens to come aboard. They where workout partners in N.Y. and became very close friends. Clemens can stay home and pitch, how good can it get for him. Me and my buddies been predicting this since we heard Andy was headed to Tejas. I can't see Pettite in a ten gallon hat though, YEE HAW :)

I was checking out the Yankee message board on mlb.com yesterday after I heard, and all the yankee fans are in an uproar. Calling him a traitor and even worse. Funny thing is, we Red Sox fans have known that for several years now :D

Do hope he does well there though, anything to be a thorn in Steinbrenner's side :p

I certainly hope Clemens and Pettite are taking a little BP right now :D . Can't see Clemens throwing as much "chin music" when he knows he's got to put a bat in his hands :D

Piazza  Don't get me started Gaugeguy. Maybe someone will wise up and send him to the AL where he can DH, cause he can't catch a lick. Then again I grew up in Cincy during the early 70's and watched one of the greatest catchers in MLB history :) Sorry L/F for getting off post, but Gaugeguy started it :D

Well aware of Mr. Fisk. Boy, did we have some good games :) . I live in Ca. now (temporarily) and my favorite team has always been the Reds and whoever the Dodgers are playing. I hate em. You should see me at a Dodger game after a few $5.00 pints :D . My wife waits in the car(God love her). Dodger fans are panti-waists. They were literally crying when he left :D

I used to live in CA also, and I did go to a Dodger game. I was afraid I was going to be shot in the parking lot!

So being a Cincy fan, do you think Pete should be allowed back into baseball? As far as I am concerned, the guy was one of the best ever. He needs to be allowed in so he can go into the H of F, but he shouldn't be allowed to manage anymore.

Petitte and Clemens won a combined 38 games last year for the pin stripes. The Astros finally have a chance at the next WS. After a couple of years in the pennant race and getting so close, we now have the best pitching lineup in the game. This should be the greatest year in the history of the Astros.

As far as Yankee fans bad mouthing these guys, I don't understand it. We've lost great players along the way and most fans still follow their careers.

Clemens probably would have stayed retired had Pettitte stayed in NY, but when the opportunity came to pitch together again, and also stay at home, he took the opportunity.

I don't know if they are bad mouthing Andy too much, they love that guy and always will. He was just awesome in pinstripes for too many years. He will get a huge cheer if he ever pitches in Yankee stadium again.

Roger is a different story, I don't think the Yankee fans ever quite warmed up to him. They took him exactly for what he was, a hired gun.

Gaugeguy, I took 15 kids to a tournament played outside of Cooperstown NY. Took all the Kids to the Hall. There's more Rose memorabilia there than probably any other player. He's there whether you like it or not. I don't think he's that good of a coach, so to me, its irrelevant. You can't teach what he brought to the plate. The MLB doesn't own the Hall of Fame. Let them decide. I think he belongs, but you're talking to someone who went down to the barber shop for "Pete Rose" haircuts. LadyFish, congrats, I think more importantly, what they will be teaching the rest of the pitching staff.

BTW Ladyfish you're absolutely right about trades. The most infamous trade of all times was when Joe Morgan came to Cincy from Houston along w/ many others

Re: Sorry Yankees, Go Astros

I don't feel that Roger signing with the Astro's is a problem, and I'm a hardcore Yankees fan.

It was his choice and he didn't have any contract binding him to NY, or anywhere else for that matter, so I say Good Luck to Roger Clemens.

I really feel sorry for the Astro's, because I don't feel that Clemens will make all that much difference, or for that matter, neither will Pettite!

Great pitching must be backed by great hitting and defence, in order to be sucessful, and unless the Astros sign some really heavy bats, and a stronger infield, Roger's and Andy's presence will not automatically guarentee the Astro's even a chance at the playoffs, let alone the World Series.

We shall see.

Best of luck to Roger Clemens in Houston.

Re: Sorry Yankees, Go Astros

I'm a 24 year fan of the Astros but a lifelong Yankee fan. This is the first year that I think the Astros have a better chance for the WS than the Yanks. The Astro starting 4 are as good or better than any other starting 4 in either league. The bullpen is also one of the best. Pitching wins championships. The Astros are solid at all the fielding positions with the exception of center where Biggio is a little slow and starting to show his age. The bench might be a question mark. Their offense slipped below what it should have been last year but if Biggio, Berkman, Bagwell, Kent and Hidalgo have average years the run production will be there.
The Yanks have added some questionable characters and I don't think the team this year is as good overall as last year. Last year didn't bring a WS championship so where does that leave them this year?
I hope that this year I will get my ultimate baseball wish....Astros v.s. Yanks in the WS.
