I've never heard of Skar Marine. They may be good, I just don't know. I've got Sony, Alpine, JBL, and maybe a few other brands on my boat. It's a total of a deck, CD changer, 3 amps, 6 speakers, and a sub. It's a work in progress. I bought 2 of the amps used on ebay; they work fine. The JBL isn't even a marine amp but it's in a dry compartment and the boat stays covered when not in use.
All this is to say that brand matters less than a good system design and a good installation.
Check out Crutchfield.com if you haven't already. They have a boat section.
I noticed a place in my starboard console that seemed to be hollow. After careful measuring I cut a hole in it for my sub. It fits in their and sounds okay. I need to reinforce the fiberglass a little bit. Look around the boat, any space can be made to work.
