I have a 1981 evinrude 90 HP. It will turn on quick sounds good,
when I put it inthe water give it full throttle. no power. It feels like 5 mile an hour.
My trolly motor runs faster. Carb was just cleaned, good spark plugs, new gas with fuel stabilizer,
Could the power or coils be working from time to time. or will they just quit. last weekend it would not start
so I changed the coils from one side to the other and it started right away, and it sounded good. So I thought it would work
there was no miss firing.
Hope this helps,

Glastron :( :(

You got the right idea. Sounds like a bad coil all the way. You are running on one cylinder. Check your spark at the plugs. The one with no spark needs a new coil. Don't get any speeding tickets after you get running again.

That's a big 10-4. on the ticket. What are you thought on the power pack. Could the power pack, affect the coils. And Thanks for you reply.

Glastron

1981 Glasstron -
I know this might sound like a ridiculous answer but did you check that you put the plug wires back on the right plugs?
I had the same exact symptoms on an '83 evinrude after new plugs. Just crossed 2 wires. Thing started like a champ but bogged out when put in gear. Might just be a simple check. Good luck.

1981,

Ewaltb, has an excellent point. That little brain hiccup (crossing the plug wires) has bitten more than one of us.
