Does anybody know of an affordable source for new ignition points for a '71 evinrude 60hp 3 cyl?
The jokers around here want $27-$37 for each point set ( i.e. $54-$74 for both). That's highway robbery for something as primitive as a point set.
I checked at NAPA but their catalog doesn't appear to list the points for this engine.none of the online places that I have looked at so far list them either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks----Robert

That's the price of running a 33 year old engine that is getting pretty rare, RL.

You might consider converting to the later style ignition system.

You might find a set of good used points at one of the salvage houses. www.twincityoutboards.com is a good one.

RL If that motor is a magneto, you may be able to replace the points with one of those "Magnatune" point/condenser replacement units. I think it needs to be one set of points and condenser for each cylinder however. It sounds like your two sets of points "cooperate" to fire all three cylinders.

I did a search on magnatune and so far, all of the results that I found were for engines that do not have a charging system.
