Is there a free or low cost source for detailed topo and lake maps for the Garmin 76C, or are you stuck with the $106 Garmin maps? Thanks.

Alan I just paid $ 119.00 for City Select software for my 76CS Plus, I am looking for a Blue Chart that is reasonable but I haven't had any luck as of yet.

Use Limewire or Kazza and search for Garmin Mapsource. Sometimes you will find what you are looking for like I did ;) ALternatively, go to e-bay and search there once in awhile.

I searched extensively for Bluechart bargains. Not easy to find. I got one on eBay for $99 - that was about the best price I saw. Lot better than the $159 MSRP, but still not cheap for a 2 gram little chip. The charts are good though.

No one makes free software for other peoples gps/plotter products. What would be the point of a business that did?

I've been playing with this program a little and seems to work well.
http://www.oziexplorer.com/

You have to switch between the 2 versions of the trial appz to use the full version but its only $90 to buy it and there are free map downloads on the site also. There are a few free appz that you can run on alot of different gps units but most of those are very complicated to work with. I've found them a waste of time. But if your looking for totally free gps software do a google search for opensource gps...this is one of the better ones.
http://gpsmap.sourceforge.net/
most of the stuff you will find on p2p appz like kazza is stolen software and illegal. Not that i care but there is enough opensource or cheaper software out there that will do the same job without the legalities.

Ooops just reread my post ......you only have 2 switch between the 2 versions if you use the trial and shareware version of ozi.In the paid for version you dont have to switch at all.
