Hi all. Like the title says I have a early 80's Chrysler 135 ob on my ski boat, with a bad coil/lead assembly for the #4 cyinder (Engine is an I-4).

If you can believe it, I ran it with an automotive coil last season and it worked, but was a bit haywire for my liking.

Does anyone know a source for this old part?

Thanks,

One more bit of info, it is a distributorless ignition, 4 coils (1 per cylinder) with black coils. I understand this is a prestolite cdi?

I just bumped into something I recognise...it's called 'Magnapower 2".

Ok, looks like I got some bad info.

The engine looks like a 1977, being that it's a 135, and magnapower.

Anyone have a favorite parts site out there?

Thanks,

Chay

Glastron_V210,
It looks like iboats has your part listed for $64 (part# 182-5475).
http://www.iboats.com/mall/partfind...gd_poid=334769&gd_row=39&**********=545924570

I did another search on a different site and price was virtually the same.
You may want to verify that your CD module is ok. If you need a new CD module it comes with a coil. Around $215 if you shop around. That was the case with my 1979 100hp chrysler. Our engines use the same CD module

Does yours have a distributor?

From what I've read the change from magnafire to magnafire II is a change from distributor to distributorless and the coils are different.

That coil doesn't seem to have enough connection points (Only 1 primary lead and one high voltage output). Mine has 2 primary leads. I wish I had the part number handy.

This one definately does not have a distributor.

Mine does have a distributor. Do you have the model # for your engine?

Chrysler used several ignition systems with the name Magnapower. However, Magnapower II is not a Prestolite ignition. While some components did look similar, it was a completely different system and, unfortunately, prone to failure.

If you have the model number for the engine, you may be able to get parts at franzmarine@aol.com

Thanks for the info...I already have the franzmarine site bookmarked for investigation.

I've read Mag IIs are prone to fail, but this one has been running great since new until just last year.

Anyway, I'm curious just what normally goes...is it coils mainly, or is it the cdi unit or triggers or all of it?

It's tough to get info on because every time I search magnapower II I get a huge number of magnapower references which is quite different, as you've pointed out. Some people use them interchangeably which sucks.
