I am sure being an omc owner you folks like me have had to find work arounds and alternate parts. So how about it lets trade war stories.
I posted on a way of packing the output shaft on the water pump.
I also found out that 1/2 Allen size is very hard to find and of course that is the size of the two upper unit pins. While pulling my hair out trying to make something work my wife stuck a 5/16 bolt in the pin a pipe wrench later and the pins were removed. I of course had to watch my wife gloat.
Lesson learned don't put that sea foam additive in the lower unit i did so in an attempt to clean the unit out after it had been flooded. I mixed it with motor oil and idled the engine in gear for 15 min it took my 4 hours to flush the goop out.

Re: Southern Engineering war stories

While searching for the correct parts to rebuild the original OMC steering properly, I've got my boat currently rigged with a Teleflex Rack system ... upside down :D

Most boats have their steering arms pushing and pulling on the FRONT of the drive. I have the through transom gig pushing on the BACK of the drive (requiring opposite affects). Opted to mount the helm upside down to make it work right.
