Does anyone know where I can get the spacers for the starter motor brackets for a 1987 70 HP Merc? I got the motor cheap, but have to put it all back together & the spacers are missing. I am in NJ, in the event that there is a local source. Thanks!

Sea Monkey, Trixie's is a good place to get all kinds of used outboard parts. It is located about 10 miles south of Toms River NJ.

The Starter motor spacers on my Merc are rubber "donuts". I simply used many wraps of electrical tape to "create" them. There is also 1/8" thick rubber electrical tape available at electrical supply places. This is likely more suitable.

Thanks for the feedback. I have never seen what the installation looks like, so I was not aware that a roll of tape may suffice. I'll have to take a look at one that is in correctly, then rig something up. I was afraid I would install the starter out of alignment, then chew the teeth up on the new starter. I'll check Trixies next time I'm at the beach.
