I have an old (1970's) Broilermaster Warm Morning grill and I am looking to refinish the wood shelves and handle. They are real Redwood and I have already sanded them down and they are ready to be refinished. I was planning to use Spar on them and I figured this would be the place to come as you guys have a lot of experience with it.
First, should I use a redwood stain on the wood before the spar or should I just apply the spar to the bare wood?
2. Would you recommend Satin, Semi-gloss or Gloss?
3. What brand would you recommend?
4. Would be OK to apply it in my basement?...Too cold to do it outside until April.

Let me know your thoughts. Any other advice would be welcome as well. :)
