How can you tell if your spark arrester is bad??? I have a 1997 3.0LX original arrester on boat it clean but makes a lot of noise when I can shake it.
Can this change the performance of the boat????

You could have one which has several aluminum plates put together and held by a post. If the press fit loosens it can rattle. The rattle will have no effect on performance. It's there just to stop chunks of stuff from being sucked in, no dirt floating in water, only mud
if you are having performance issues - a bit of carb cleaner. I didn't realize how bad mine was until I cleaned it. The boat sat for three years and was obviously neglected for some time prior to that.
