Spark arrestor / valve cover hose question

I have a 85 wellcraft with a 350 and a edelbrock carb on it. I am trying to clean up the engine wiring and hoses and just make it look better back their. The two hoses that come of the air cleaner and one goes to each valve cover, first do they have to be their or can I just put aftermarket valve cover breathers on the valve covers. If they do have to be their are they supposed to be like a pvc valve or should both sides just be hollow fittings that the hose connects to then staright to the spark arrestor.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Spark arrestor / valve cover hose question

If both do only go to the spark arrestor then neither should have a PCV valve - thus if they are hollow, that is appropriate. If either actually has a PCV valve, it should actually be routed to a manifold vacuum source.

If just vent tubes, could you remove them and replace with vent caps? yes, but it probably wouldn't be completely legal/safe. They are routed to the arrestor to pull any crankcase fumes back into the engine vise just filling the engine compartment with said fumes. Possibly causing an explosive atmosphere etc.

All boats/engines will typically have at least one vent tube to the arrestor. Newer boats have one vent tube and the other a PCV valve plumbed to a vacuum source.

Okay that makes sense about the fumes going back into the motor so I guess I will just leave the hoses and since they are supposed to be hollow I then atleast I know they are right.
