spark plug boots

Have a 115 Suzuki that was in storage for 4 years. Installed new plugs, but when I removed wire from first old plug found the what appeared to be the tip of the plug still stuck in the boot. Difficult to dig out, so I decided to change the rest and try later, thinking if only one was stuck that it wouldn't be so bad. Found the same thing on all the plug wires. So I took the tip off of all the new plugs, and engine runs fine.<br />Question is this-are the tips supposed to be permanently left in the wire, or should I dig them out, or try to buy new wires?

Re: spark plug boots

some of the suzukis just used the threaded end on the plug. they did not use the tip. if you suspect the threaded plug tips are still in the cap take out a plug and thread it in and see if the tip comes out. what color are the caps ?

Re: spark plug boots

I tried threading a plug in and then pulling out-no luck. Tried a really small pointy needle nose pliers-no luck. I tend to want to believe the metal in the boot is a part of the assembly, and I am supposed to remove the threaded tip of the plugs before pushing wire boot on. Boots are integral part of wire. Wire/boots are all black. Any ideas? Thanks for the help.

Re: spark plug boots

I think the black boots fit on the plugs after the plug tip is screwed off. you may want to remove and clean the carbs as well. they dont like sitting and are very sensitive to debris. also dont put it under a load until ya change the water pump impeller.
