48hp 1987 Johnson
I did the carb rebuild with all the advice from this forum.
My motor now holds prime and the idle is much better.
The motor runs great at all power ranges, very happy with results.
I ran boat for half a day fishing with not one problem, flawless in fact.
I pulled the spark plugs to examine condition,, to diagnose my carb rebuild efforts.
The top plug was black and a little wet, always has been like that prior to rebuild.
The bottom plug was what appeared to be a white milky residue on the plug and the plug tip was very clean.
Note: prior to my carb rebuild I had a #28 fixed orifice in upper carb. and a #36 in the lower carb. ( this was the original config from factory ) .
After rebuild I installed #36's in upper and lower as spec'd for this motor.
The motor idled only very roughly and only when warm.
I tried #32's the idle was better but still rough.
I than tried #27's and the motor idles very nicely.
Starts cold holds idle and runs smoothly.
Ran the boat on half day fishing trip and it was flawless.
Soooooooo the milky white bottom plug has me very confused.
What does this indicate?????????????
Any help with this is greatly appreciated!
Thanks, and Regards
