spark plug gapping

I have an older Evenrude 6 hp I think it is 1974<br />Model # 6904 F<br />Serial # J0003089<br />My question well I have 2 first is this a 1974?<br />And second do I gap the plugs @ 0.30?<br />I just changed my plugs and now it will not crank I am using NGK B6S.<br />Thanks for any tips you may provide.

When you say crank, do you mean actually start up? If the starter is trying to startup the motor, I would check first if you actually have spark at the plugs. May not need new plugs if there is something wrong before the plugs. When was the last time it ran?

No, it will not start after changing the plugs.<br />She ran just last week but,it was a little rough.<br />After pulling the plugs I could see that they were old and fouled out.

Your engine is a 1979, Shawn. Not a 1974.<br /><br />All OMC engines were designed to use Champion plugs, I recommend them. Yes, the gap is .030"<br /><br />There is a troubleshooting guide for outboards that wont start in the Engine FAQs section. Let us know what you find there.<br /><br />Good luck. :)
