I am rebuilding a Mercruiser 160 ('67) and am converting to electronic ignition. I am using a Pertronics conversion kit. My question is this: what spark plug do I use? I am assuming I should not use the same plug that the engine had in it with the points set-up. Thanks for the help. I am almost ready to start the engine and want to buy new plugs........

FreeBeeTony
I see no reason to change to a different plug. Plug still running in same motro so should be same heat range, compression. If it needed a different plug I am sure your Pertronics Kit would tell you.

Re: Spark Plug Selection

I thought the electronice ignition might give a stronger spark, thus requiring a different plug with a wider gap.

Re: Spark Plug Selection

FreeBeeTony
I thought it just replace the points with electronic points. If it need a wider spark gap and different plugs dont you think they would tell you that.
I do not know the system but from what I have read just replaces points an condenser. One of the reasons I have not look at it is I know I can fix my points and condenser on the water in five minutes and in 23 years never had a set fail. Change one time just on general principle.

If I was selling this product and I thought would run better with different plugs and a different gap I would tell you that so you will be happy and advertise for me. Also I would offer to sell you what you need.
