Ok i got home the other night and took the cover off the boat to finish up some of the rtv removing from the previous post. However i got there and found a spark plug boot that had crumbled on me the last time out. So i ordered new boots from crowley got them in last night and put them on. No problem until this morning when i was driving to work, i started thinking i may not have installed them correctly. All i did is strip wire insulation to get enough actual wire showing and then i crimped the new connector on (after running it through the boot) and had the stripped end sticking out to make contact with the plug. Is this right? I plan on going home this evening taking a plug and grounding it to the block and seeing if i have spark, if i do i should be ok correct? Or do i need to redo the connections where i fold the exposed wire over the insulation and crimp that all together? Thanks guys i think sometimes my half hour drive to work is a bad idea. Too much time for my thoughts to get in and bug me. :)

Re: Spark plug wire

You should strip the wire and fold it back then crimp the connector on. When I build wires I also put a bead of solder on there to make sure it has good contact. However if it were me I would replace the wire itself. If it is old enough for the boot to fall apart then the insulation on the wire may be compromised. Good luck.

Re: Spark plug wire

Ok but isnt the wire feed directly into the coil pack on this model? A 85 force 85 hp motor? But i will def go home tonight and redo it since it isnt that hard of a change. Thanks for the info the wires themselves felt solid and good but i know feeling isnt always accurate. If the wire isnt feed straight into the coil then i may replace the wire too. The only reason i didnt do that to start was i could swear it was in the coil hard wired.
