I need to change the plug wires on my 1960 40 hp johnson. The wires on it appear to be original and are solid core wires. All I can find for replacement are resister type wires. They are silicone type wires.(nylon/graphite) Would they be ok on this old engine? Thanks, Allen

Re: spark plug wires

Just contact any John / Evin dealer. That wire comes on a roll so have your old wires out so you're sure to get enough.

You must use metal core wires. The magneto is too weak to cope with the slight resistance of auto type wires. It also must be the same diameter wire to fit the ignition coils.

If you can't get to an outboard dealer, try a lawn mower or motorcycle repair shop. You need 45" to do the job, so pick up 4'.
