If the end has come off my plug wire do I have to replace the whole wire or can I do just the end?

i would change the whole wire, it's probably a graphit wire

Pull the connector out of the boot and take a look. Most of them are coiled wire with a sharpened leg that you stick thru the sparkplug wire. To do this push the wire thru the boot, attack coil/connector and pull back into the boot. I doubt the wire is graphite.
